The Scope of the project included manufacturing and supply of seven buildings which formed a part of the infrastructure for the Saudi Railways Organization. The building consisted of a Heavy industrial locomotive and wagon maintenance shops with several large capacity cranes exceeding 25 MT and running in multiple bays and modules.
The project specifications called for stringent design criteria and a very tight budget. Design criteria consisted of, but not limited to, minimum material thickness, stringent allowable deflections/ stresses, and a multi-coat paint system.
Kirby Building Systems, leveraged its 35 plus years of experience in complex structures and combined with an innovative value engineering approach consisting of a Hybrid hot rolled and Built up primary framing system, was able to successfully execute the project within set technical, financial, and delivery targets.
The project consisting of over 3,500 tons and 7 different buildings was completed in a span of 6 months from conceptual design to delivery. Capitalizing on its Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement culture Kirby Building Systems applied a just-in-time concept to various disciplines involved in the project from design, procurement, manufacturing, and delivery logistics. Kirby was praised by both contractor and end client for successfully executing the project.
